China Free Trade Agreement

In 2008 New Zealand signed a Free Trade agreement with China. This Free Trade Agreement marks a significant milestone in the relationship between China and New Zealand being the first OECD country to sign a comprehensive FTA with China. The FTA’s main objective is to open up economic opportunities for New Zealand business in China, and to boost commercial ties with our third largest trading partner. It will also assist in raising the commercial profile for New Zealand companies in China.

For New Zealand importers, tarrif reduction has been a huge contributor to assist getting product to market faster and more cost effectively.

The FTA is the culmination of over 35 years of diplomatic relations between the countries.
