WasteCo
Strategic Partnership for WasteCo’s Portaloo Expansion
WasteCo is a reputable waste management company founded by Carl Storm and James Redmayne. Over the past decade, WasteCo has grown exponentially, offering a wide range of liquid and solid waste removal, treatment, and disposal solutions.
Their commitment to environmental sustainability and their “Yes” ethos, which guarantees solutions to even the most challenging waste problems, has contributed to their commercial success. WasteCo serves clients throughout New Zealand, including councils, businesses, and NGOs, and holds the prestigious Diamond-Certified Toitū Envirocare waste solutions certification.
Linkeight Director Jeremy Robbie has known Carl Storm from WasteCo for a number of years and after several years of casual discussions, Jeremy reached out to WasteCo with an interest in forming a strategic partnership. During a visit to Christchurch, Jeremy met with Carl and toured WasteCo’s operations to identify areas where Linkeight could offer assistance.
As a first step, WasteCo requested Linkeight to produce 1-tonne forklift bags with their branding. Linkeight successfully manufactured and delivered a 40ft container load of these bags. Shortly after their arrival, Linkeight was invited for another walkthrough at WasteCo’s facility to discuss further collaborations, specifically focusing on sourcing alternative portaloo options from Asia at a more competitive price point.
Upon understanding WasteCo’s requirements, Linkeight compiled a detailed brief and identified suitable factories in Asia. Linkeight proposed a cost-effective manufacturing process, specifications, and pricing to WasteCo. Jeremy proposed the idea of a custom colour run with WasteCo’s logo and branding, creating a visual mock-up to showcase the concept. At this point James, the CEO of WasteCo, enthusiastically embraced the project, and took over the portaloo specifics with Jeremy.
To ensure the product met WasteCo’s expectations, Linkeight air freighted an operational sample for WasteCo, although it wasn’t branded. WasteCo were satisfied with the sample, allowing Linkeight to proceed with finalising the plastic colour (matching it with Pantone) and logo placement with the factory. Linkeight produced the first full-colour, branded sample, which WasteCo approved, signifying the green light for production.
With WasteCo’s sign-off, Linkeight initiated production and arranged shipping for two 40ft containers of the custom- branded portaloos. The containers were shipped and delivered to WasteCo’s premises in Christchurch, completing the initial order. Linkeight’s partnership with WasteCo has extended beyond this project, with an expectation of further orders and the potential for additional collaborations in the future.
By engaging Linkeight for this project, WasteCo experienced several significant benefits:
Factory Vetting: Assessing and vetting factories in China can be challenging without the right connections and experience. Linkeight’s expertise in strategic sourcing and contract manufacturing enabled them to identify reliable factories capable of meeting WasteCo’s customisation requirements.
Customisation Expertise: Linkeight’s collaboration pulled in skills from multiple agencies, including marketing agencies, Chinese factories, and design professionals. This collective expertise ensured the successful customisation of the portable restrooms, particularly in the branding space.
Cost and Time Efficiency: Linkeight’s strategic sourcing capabilities helped WasteCo achieve cost savings and faster turnaround times by identifying competitive pricing and streamlining the manufacturing process.
Negotiation Support: Linkeight’s presence on the ground, including factory visits, allowed them to negotiate effectively with the factories, ensuring the required customisations were achieved to WasteCo’s satisfaction.
Through their expertise in contract manufacturing, customisation, and negotiation, Linkeight has helped WasteCo diversify their offerings while achieving cost efficiencies. WasteCo can now focus on their core business of providing comprehensive waste management solutions, knowing they have a reliable partner in Linkeight to support their sourcing and manufacturing needs.

We specialise in plastic and metals but have also worked with glass, foams and wood.
We can accept 3D native files from most CAD software packages (preferably .stp or .IGS). 2D files (.dxf or .dwg) with pdf working files to accompany. Linkeight can provide these file types for you if required.
Quality controls are specific by customer but typically include material checks, dimensional validation, finishing validation checks (includes paint, powder coating, galvanizing). The rate of checking is typically 1-5% of production quantity, at random. Checking rates will increase to as high as 20% if any issues are found.
Yes, design can include conceptual 3D designs, finalisation of 3D design and 2D working files.
Bulk production supply generally take 90 days as a guide after the design is finalised but is dependent on the complexity of the product.
Production lead time could be as fast as 15-20 days.
We stand by our supplier partners who are experts in their fields and most issues can be resolved fairly quickly.
Depending on the manufacturing process, costs can vary and include set up charges for moulds in addition to the price per unit. Typically our quoted price is FIS to our clients premise. As we trade in USD there may be some price fluctuation between orders from time to time.
